After the start of Lithuania’s integration into the European Union, the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations was prepared on the basis of the then applicable International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-88 approved by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 1988 and the EU version ISCO-88 (COM) of this Classification. The Lithuanian Classification of Occupations was launched to collect statistical data and publish statistical information on 1 January 2000.
When the revised structure of the International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-08 was approved by the ILO in 2008, the updating of the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations was commenced.
The structure of the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations according to ISCO-08 was approved in 2009. The updated structure of the Classification has been used for statistical wage structure surveys since 1 January 2010. The code list of the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations was approved in 2010.
At the occupational level, the Classification has been used in statistical surveys since 1 January 2011.
The applicable Lithuanian Classification of Occupations based on the updated International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-08 is also available in the Central Classification Database . The official ISCO-08 Volume 1 is available on the ILO Web site .
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation has been responsible for managing the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations since 2011. The preparation and management of the Classification of Occupations is entrusted to the Talent Policy Group.
