Leads ships through dangerous or overcrowded waters. Advises ship captains on piloting issues. Performs control depth measurements along the dock line and in fairway areas affected by silt, monitors fairway barriers. Controls how the ship's crew complies with local rules, laws, port facilities and fairway protection regulations.
Main activities
* plan ship navigation, lead the ship and sticks to the route;
* monitor and interpret navigation tools and meteorological data;
* monitor the condition of the ship and takes necessary actions, considering the conditions of the ship and the environment, maintain and repair the ship's equipment and systems;
* collaborate with other crew members and crews of other ships via radio communication or visually;
* adhere to ship safety and environmental standards requirements.
