Main activities

* consult women, families and communities on health, nutrition, childbirth and complications;
* consult on breastfeeding, newborn care, family planning and contraception, lifestyle and other issues related to pregnancy and childbirth;
* assess the course of pregnancy and childbirth, recognize signs and symptoms indicating the need for referral to a health specialist;
* usually accept a newborn only when no possible complications are detected or assist doctors or midwifery specialists during childbirth;
* care for women and newborns after childbirth, provide them with assistance, monitor their health condition.
