Leads the replacement of ship mechanisms, instructs or performs repair work in port, checks the mechanical and electrical devices and equipment of ships arriving at the port, determines the nature and extent of repair, estimates costs and draws up estimates for repair work, lists of necessary parts and materials and oversees the development of those work plans, checks and selects materials that should be used in repairs and coordinates the progress of repair work. Responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of the ship's mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment.
